Jaunt or Challenge?: Both
John Inverdale, Honorary President of Surrey Region of Wooden Spoon, performed the opening ceremony at Wandle Valley School of their new Music Room.

The Wandle Valley School in Carshalton caters for pupils aged between 5 and 16 with emotional and challenging behaviour and is considered out of the mainstream norm for children who have the severest statements. The headmaster Doug Bone, a former rugby player, is absolutely dedicated to the welfare of all the children in his care – not only at the school but also those whom he meets at other schools when he is called in for advice and assistance.

The music room which Surrey Spoon has recently funded for £7,000 offers a challenge to these young people and brings one of the arts to disengaged groups of youngsters. It was clear that the facility was really enjoyed by the children using it – John tried his hand at drumming, but the children probably had had more practice!
